I am constantly on the hunt for something fresh to blast in my headphones. Since I started this site, I have made it a point to share the gems I find because keeping this kind of new music discovery to myself feels like a missed opportunity. Lately, my YouTube algorithm finally got the hint that I want stuff I haven’t heard a thousand times already.

It started after I watched the latest video from REN. That performance was so great that I actually had to write about it just to process it: mostly because I didn’t have anyone else to nerd out with. My goal now is to do whatever I can to make sure more people hear what REN is doing. But while I was spiraling down that rabbit hole, I stumbled upon a new artist named MAPHRA, and I am officially hooked.

The Raw Power of MAPHRA

There is one specific track that has me stuck on repeat: her cover of Bring Me The Horizon. Now, I already have a lot of love for BMTH, but this cover is on another level. I have always been a sucker for female vocalists who can bring that raw, visceral expression to a heavy track.

What she does with her voice in this song is wild. I legit haven’t heard anything quite like it before. It is not just about hitting the notes; it is about the grit and the personality she injects into the performance. Since I have a „MUSIC“ category on this blog, expect to see me dropping more finds like this. This is the perfect place to dump my obsessions with artists before they inevitably hit the mainstream.

I have a history of this. Just look at Sleep Token: I was blasting them way before they became the global phenomenon they are now. I see that same kind of potential here.

Building the „Music of Mayhem“ Playlist

Let’s be real for a minute: the Spotify shuffle is not that great. Most of the time, it just cycles through the same thirty songs you already know. Nobody has the time to spend hours every day digging through obscure forums to find their next favorite band. That is where I come in.

Whenever I stumble upon something that stops me in my tracks, I am going to report back here. While I was writing this, I had a thought:
Why not start a Music of Mayhem playlist?
It would be a dedicated spot on Spotify where I can archive all the new music I find and write about.

I used to wonder why people were always pushing their own playlists, but now I get it. I want a central hub for myself to store these discoveries, and if you want to follow along, you are more than welcome. I am skipping the part where I ask if you think it is a good idea: I have already convinced myself it is essential.

What to Expect Next

I am going to keep the playlist updated with tracks that fit the „Mayhem“ vibe: stuff that is intense, unique, and probably a little bit unsettling. Whether it is a hauntology-style folk singer or a metalcore artist with a point to prove, if it is good, it is going in.

Drop a comment or hit me up if you find an artist that you think belongs on the list. I am always looking for more reasons to ignore the radio.
