I will be the first to admit that I am straight up late to the party on this one. But honestly? Better late than never.

To my defense, I am currently suffering from a severe case of streaming service fatigue. Between Netflix, Disney plus, and everything else, I figured I had enough content to last me three lifetimes. I did not think I needed another bill for Apple TV. However, thanks to a lucky mobile plan update that basically threw all the services into one bucket for me, I finally ran out of excuses.

If you are like me, you probably rotate your subscriptions like a seasonal wardrobe. We used to cancel Disney plus the second we finished a series and wait until something else popped up. But I am here to tell you: if you have a free month or a gap in your schedule, take two days and binge all three seasons of Shrinking.

Not Your Average Background Noise

I originally put this show on just to have something running in the background while I worked. I hate working in total silence. But about ten minutes in, I had to stop. I had to close my laptop. This is not a „background noise“ kind of show.

We all know that recommendations are a tricky business. My taste is rarely going to align perfectly with yours. That is why I only have a very small circle of people I actually trust for „the good stuff.“ I have exactly 1.5 people for music, two for series, two for books, and absolutely zero for movies. These are the people with a 90% hit rate. Shrinking came from that inner circle, and it deadass hit the mark.

Therapy, Problems, and Real Talk

I am not going to spoil the plot because there is a twist in the first ten minutes that you deserve to experience fresh. As the name suggests, it deals with therapy and life’s messier problems. But it does it in such a refreshingly normal way that it actually caught me off guard.

What really sold me was the language. I haven’t heard this many „fuck yous“ and „suck it fuckers“ since I was back home in New York. It made me happy. Why? Because that is how real people actually talk. People insult each other. They disagree. They yell. And then, they stay friends. It is a level of authenticity that most „polished“ sitcoms are too scared to touch.

Just Watch It

If we were sitting down and you asked me, „Look, you have seen a thousand shows and read a hundred books, but if you had to recommend just one thing right now, what would it be?

The answer is Shrinking. Every single time.

Stop reading this post and go turn it on. If you get through the first three episodes and think it is garbage because it reminds you too much of „How I Met Your Mother“ or „Scrubs„, feel free to reach out. I want to know exactly what went wrong in your head so I can delete your number. Kidding

Go have some fun.
