I just found the latest addition to my MUSIC OF MAYHEM PLAYLIST, and it is the kind of discovery that makes the endless scrolling worth it. As someone who spends a lot of time managing digital noise for a living, finding something raw is a rare win.
The band is called RESISTOR. They are a high-energy collaboration that feels like a collision between modern metalcore and heavy electronic influences. This isn’t just another group trying to copy a 2010 formula. They bring a polished, aggressive sound that blends massive double bass, visceral screaming, and integrated DJ elements that actually serve the song rather than just filling space.
The „Under 100k“ Sweet Spot
There is a specific kind of magic in finding a band with fewer than 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. It feels like a secret. It feels personal.
What killed me about RESISTOR is that they shot their music video right in New York City. Having spent time living and studying in New York myself, I recognize that grit anywhere. They are putting out high-quality visuals and great production, yet the video has fewer than 10,000 views. That is criminal.
I’m a sucker for bands that refuse to stay in one lane. I want the screaming. I want the double bass hitting me in the face. But I also want that electronic edge that keeps the energy moving. It is the hybrid nature of the sound that sticks.
Ditching the €70 Nostalgia Trap
I have reached a point where I’m done with the stadium circuit. I have seen every „big“ band I ever cared about (exept for maybe two or three…), and honestly, the math doesn’t work anymore.
Paying €70 or more to see a band for the seventh time from a mile away isn’t it. I would much rather drop four euros to stand in a sweaty rehearsal room or a small club next door and see something I’ve never heard before. That is where the real energy is. That is where music actually lives.
Because of that, you are going to see a lot more talk about new music here on Thoughts of Mayhem. I am making a conscious effort to stop waiting for the algorithm to feed me and start actively hunting for „new cool shit.“
Expanding your horizons doesn’t mean you have to like everything you hear. It just means you’re willing to listen. If a track doesn’t hit, you’re only one click away from the next song. No harm, no foul. But if you don’t look, you’re definitely going to miss the next cool song.
If you already knew these guys, congrats, you’re ahead of the curve. Send me your playlist.
If you didn’t, you’re welcome. This is what I’m here for.
What’s the last „small“ band you found that blew your speakers out? Let me know in the comments.
